Vancouver, 2010

Thirty disabled Oregon veterans at the Paralympic Games.

Governor Ted Kulongoski wanted Oregon’s wounded in the stands when the world came to Vancouver, British Columbia, for the 2010 Winter Paralympics. He formed a committee, Get a Vet in the Game, to raise the money.

The Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde gave $20,000. Businesses, a Disabled American Veterans chapter, and individuals gave more.

The Oregon War Veterans Association gave $20,000. I worked directly with Amy Keiter in the Governor’s Office to put it where it was needed.

The committee raised more than $100,000. On March 12, 2010, thirty disabled Oregon veterans, each with a companion, watched the opening ceremonies. The Royal Canadian Legion hosted them to lunch.

The Governor went with them.
